"Mankind is hampered in meeting the environmental crisis by a severe and pervasive apathy which is based upon feelings and attitudes of which he is largely unconscious" -Harold Searles, 1972 This presentation, part lecture and part group process, is designed to elicit creative responses to climate change that are rooted in modern theories of the mind and psyche. 20 minutes of lecture will be followed by 60 minutes of group process centering on the topic of the psychology of a changing climate; what processes of mind lead to environmental exploitation? How do these processes manifest within human relationships? What does this look like within the field of modern psychotherapy, and what can be learned from the world of modern treatment about addressing the ongoing challenge of a strained human/nature relationship?
