This session will show the ways in which the impacts of Boulder's closest Nuclear SuperFund site, Rocky Flats, continues to be a controversial Front Range issue. With its buried uranium, plutonium, arsenic and more, should the site be turned into a "Wildlife Refuge"? Should children recreate at the site? Should "green" housing and business developments be built at the site? What about toll roads, dog parks and a visitor center? Despite all the illnesses that past workers at the site and neighbors have already experienced? This presentation will address the pressing dangers of allowing Rocky Flats to be "greenwashed". Most have been threatened by developers and government agencies, but continue speaking out and engaging in "Nuclear Guardianship." There are a multitude of ways to get involved and carry on the tradition of together to ensuring the community is protected and the toxicity of the site is remembered.
